When I joined the Navy in 1946, I enlisted using the name on my birth certificate which read Edward (nmn) Doucette. In this context (nmn) means "no middle name". When mother saw this on my official papers she was very distressed, as she was under the impression that my middle name had been recorded as Izard, her maiden name. It was at this point that I promised my mother that I would never be anything but Edward I. or Edward Izard Doucette. I promised that she would always be remembered when I signed my name, and I have kept that promise. I am proud to sign my name Edward I. Doucette Always have, always will. |
